Privacy Policy

Last updated 20 September 2026

Fly Keeper is a fly-fishing inventory app. This policy describes exactly what it stores, why, and how to remove it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version

We store your email, your display name, and the fly collection you choose to enter. We do not sell anything, run advertising, or track you across other websites. There are no third-party analytics or advertising trackers in this app. You can delete your account, and everything in it, yourself at any time.

What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details — your email address and a password. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider; we never see or store the password itself.
  • Profile — the display name you choose, which is shown to anglers you accept as friends.
  • Your collection — the fly boxes, patterns, colors, hook sizes and quantities you enter.
  • Photos — any images you upload of your flies. These are resized in your browser before upload and stored in our storage bucket.
  • Connections — friend requests you send or accept, so we know whose collections you may view.
  • Where you fish (optional)— a town or region you may type when signing up or in Settings, such as "Bozeman, Montana". We look it up to get an approximate centre point so we can see roughly where anglers are. This is never your device's GPS or precise position, it is entirely optional, and you can change or delete it at any time in Settings → Profile by clearing the field.

Information collected automatically

  • Standard server logs — our hosting and database providers record ordinary technical information such as IP address, browser type and timestamps, for security and reliability. We do not use these to build a profile of you.
  • One product event— when an account reaches the pilot's three-box limit and is refused a fourth box, we record that it happened and which account it was. We use the count to decide whether to offer more boxes later. Nothing about the contents of your boxes is included.
  • Last active time — we record when you last opened your collection, so we can tell how much the app is being used. It is stored to the nearest quarter of an hour, not as a browsing history.

What we do not collect

No GPS or device location, no contacts, no advertising identifiers, no cross-site tracking, no analytics SDKs, and no payment details (the pilot is free and we do not process payments). The only location we hold is the optional town or region you type yourself.

Who can see your collection

Your collection is never public. Anglers you have accepted as friends can view your boxes, flies and quantities read-only; they can never change anything. You can switch off friend visibility entirely in Settings → Privacy, after which friends see nothing at all.

Pattern names you create are private to you unless you explicitly tick "share with the community" when adding one. Shared pattern names are visible to all signed-in anglers, along with your display name.

Administrators (currently the person who runs Fly Keeper) can see an account-level view: your display name, email, when you joined, when you were last active, the town or region you chose to share, the names of your boxes, and counts — how many boxes, patterns, flies, photos and friends you have. They can also moderate pattern names shared publicly, and review photos offered to the shared library.

Administrators cannot read the flies inside your boxes, your notes, your photos, or your private pattern names, and the privacy setting above does not change what an administrator sees.

Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent your information. We use two service providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Supabase — database, authentication and photo storage.
  • Vercel — application hosting and delivery.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety and rights of our users.

How long we keep it

Your data is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, boxes, flies, variants, pattern names and uploaded photos are deleted along with it. Provider backups and server logs may persist for a short period afterwards under those providers' own retention schedules.

Your choices

  • See and change your data — everything you have entered is visible and editable in the app.
  • Limit sharing — turn on full privacy in Settings → Privacy, or remove a friend at any time.
  • Remove your location— clear the "where you fish" field in Settings → Profile and it is deleted, including the map coordinates.
  • Delete everything — Settings → Delete account permanently removes your account and its contents. This is immediate and cannot be undone.
  • Ask us — if you would like a copy of your data or have a privacy question, email broyal520@gmail.com.

Photos and copyright

All photos in Fly Keeper are supplied by users. Please upload only photographs you took or otherwise have the right to use. Do not upload catalog images from retailers or manufacturers. We remove infringing images when notified.

Children

Fly Keeper is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Security

Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored with access rules enforced at the database level, so one angler's account cannot read another's data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously and fix problems promptly when found.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
